Term 4 Week 6 Monday 9th November
Our Prayer This Week
From the Principal
Dear parents and carers,
We have reached the half way point of term and we are still enjoying the opportunity to learn and play together on site. It is wonderful that some more opportunities are becoming available to the children as the health status of the state improves but we are still unsure how parent attendance, mask wearing, transition opportunities, sports events and graduation are going to look as the year progresses. We will keep you informed as the easing of restrictions are communicated to the school.
Birthdays
Sadie Wardlaw 10th November
Archie Dale 11th November
Grade 6 Excursion
Most of our Grade 6 students will be going on an excursion to the Noorat campus of Mercy Regional College this Tuesday the 10th of November to explore the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Maths) education activities they are conducting. The students will travel by car at lunch time and return to school before the final school bell. There will be no Mercy students onsite on the day to comply with our current restrictions.
5/6 School Camp
Our Senior school camp to Grampians Retreat has been confirmed from Wednesday 2nd, December to Friday 4th of December. We will be onsite with St Thomas' but both schools will operate independently of one another to comply with the current guidelines. The Grade 5 and 6 students will receive a note today with further information and details of the event. It is great to see one of our important events able to take place now that the health status of the state has improved.
3/4 School Camp
The planned 3/4 school camp to Sovereign Hill in Ballarat has been cancelled as the facility has closed to school groups during the pandemic. We are working hard at coming up with an alternative option to give them an overnight stay and some great learning opportunities before the end of the year.
School Advisory Council
With our School Advisory Council AGM set for Wednesday 25th of November we are seeking nominations from parents to join our Council to support work done by our current long serving members. Nominations for the role close this Friday the 13th of November. I encourage all families to consider joining this vital group that helps shape the future of our school.
Book Week
Congratulations to Kaison Jubb for being awarded as our Grade 5 "best borrower" for 2020. The award is given to the student who borrows from our library the most over their time at St Colman's. Well done Kaison.
Thank you to the parents, staff and community members who donated the cost of our short listed books purchased for our Library. The value of these donations was $353.00 from the following families: Herry, Lehmann, Francis, Shepherd, Dale, Krepp, Dolling, Jubb, Cameron, Allen, Wardlaw, McKenzie, Lee and Poole families.
We sold books with a total value of $1466.00 and with a $293.00 commission and $110.00 free books to the library, the school has received $756.00 worth of new resources to our school Library. Thank you again to Jenny Stapleton for all her hard work, energy and enthusiasm that makes this a special school event every year.
Awards for this Week
Remembrance Day
Remembrance day is this Wednesday the 11th of November when our nation will pause for a minutes reflection at 11am to recall the times of war and the sacrifice of our Australian citizens to retain the freedom we now enjoy. The Mortlake RSL have provided us with a range of items for purchase in the school office. Our school leaders will take these to the classrooms each day to see if students wish to buy from the tray. From left to right these items are priced at $2, $3, $4, $5 and $5 for the pens.
Outdoor Fun
With restrictions limiting indoor gatherings we are utilising our school farm to conduct whole school gatherings such as our school assemblies. You may have seen us live streaming our awards on facebook last week. The Middle students have planted a large crop of vegetables in our beds and the Senior students are enjoying the opportunity to do their literacy work here as well.
Middle and Senior Sport
The Middle and Senior students will be playing tennis for Sport for the next two weeks. We have a good collection of racquets here at school but we will need some students to bring their own if they have them.
New Sports Polo Shirt Order
As mentioned previously, we are changing our yellow sports polo shirts to a new poly-fibre shirt. We will be doing a bulk order as well as ordering spares to have in our uniform shop. Please complete the attached Form at your earliest convenience.
